Scrappy crazy

Finally finished this top. Love the collection from jinny beyer. So many seams it is easy to make mistakes
Thanks to P , I added a pieced border to finish the secondary pinwheels. I'm trying to decide if I want to add a blue border.
Decision for another day. Put sandwich together for Dallas' quilt. Now to find time to quilt it. Will probably do binding on dawns early light at bee on thursday.
Busy time.

Purple haze

Will give this to allison on tuesday. She does my hair and she loves purple.
I really am beginning to worry about how fast time goes by. It seems as if just yesterday it was august and I was trying to hold out for October and cooler weather.
Now it is here. Time for craft shows, homecomings, and quilt shows. The recent one in Sanford was especially nice. Beautiful quilts, different vendors and friendly workers.
Supper at my nephews place in carolina beach was wonderful, grilled grouper, crab dip appetizers, and banana foster for dessert. Yum.
Recent visit with my sister in law in greenville was a chance to catch up. Headed over to see my brother in law and his family for lunch. Now if I can just tie down my brother I will have touched base with family.
Visit with j and her sister last night for supper and quilt with c and p on thursday.
Fall has fell and time change this weekend, just makes you dizzy.

Tired puppy

Had to take this picture. This is my puppy all the way home.
So sweet.

Mackinac

I did get something accomplished in Sneads ferry! I only took one project so I had no choice
Really I have not started another quilt but plan to fix that tomorrow. I still need about 300 blue/neutral half square triangles. Had cut some but forgot to take them!!
I love the multiple patterns this block sets up. Oh well only 35 more blocks to go. I like the way the turquoise lightens up the quilt.
Also went to a new beautiful quilt shop in jacksonville, the quilt lizzie. Beautiful fabrics and they were having a sale!! Trouble.

Dawn's Early light etc

This is finished and at the quilters. Not many more big quilts left in me!!
I did add an outside blue border to match the inside one. Thanks to c and p for ideas about the pieced border. It is 87 by 105. I do like them to go over the pillows.
Hate messing with throwing shamed pillows off the bed when I toddle off to sleep.
Fall is finally here. Love this cool morning.
Have to walk some before it gets warm.
There is a let down after finishing a big quilt, so I just cleaned up some of the sewing mess.
Now to begin something new.

Tree cutting

Cecil and I worked hard to cut down this 25.5 inch in diameter  oak. I hated to have it cut but it was leaning at a 75 degree angle. Then two more scrub trees downed in front yard. Sure will let in light.

9 of 20 blocks.

I like this arrangement best. Only 11 more blocks to put together and finish pieced border.
Hope to get it finished this weekend.

Nearly done

Well I have managed to finish nearly all units for the remaining 15 -18 inch blocks for "Dawn's Early Light" quilt.
That is 60 string squares, 60 red friendship stars, and 30 blue half Sq triangle units. Now for the large string triangles
At least I only need 30. I think I will be glad to finish this top.
Loving the cooler weather.

More beautiful weather on the way.

I admit it. I am a weather hound. As I get older I am less inclined to be too far from home in bad weather so I check weather on the ones often. And I love cool or cold weather.so I am looking forward to the next few nice days.
I am trying to get all the individual units done for "Dawn's Early Light" I have 20 more 5 inch string blocks and 30 more string triangles. Will be glad to finish. Blocks are 18 inches. Will probably put red and white checkerboard as border.
Superb tv sunday night as "Endeavour" was on for season 4.

Dog slug

Weather is wonderful, 69, dry, and slight breeze. I'm in the shade but my puppy is a sun loving slug. How lucky to have this beautiful morning in august.

Lacy log cabins finished

I finally finished 64 lacy log cabin blocks. Not counting finding fabric, cutting 200+ strips 1.5 inches wide and cutting 16 x 64 logs, sewing each block took 1 hour. I know whine some.
I will make my quilt 7 x 9 blocks. It's ok if I leave out one of the brown ones:-(.
Now to put them together!
On to "Dawn's Early Light".

summer is a busy time

So much has happened in the last month.  My fridge started leaking and as it was 17 years old I got a new one, my deck was falling apart so I got it fixed, and my mattress was over 22 years old so I went to "The original mattress factory" with C and ordered a new one.  Why not?
Well last Friday my cousin and his wife came from Pennsylvania on their way to Florida and spent the night, my guy who put in the deck had waited for sunny weather and came on Friday to seal it, and the mattress factory delivered the mattresses.  I was not sure whether I was coming or going.
Everything worked out and got done but I was pooped.

This week our guild members are putting on a quilt camp for some girls at St Andrews church.
Yesterday was spent turning on and threading the machine, learning to sew a straight, close to quarter-inch seam, and pressing.  We are trying to make a "disappearing four-patch" quilt in 4 days?

Last Thursday was our bee at St Stephens and it was nice.  Not so many as usual but always fun to sew with friends.
The first picture is J on one end of Kaffe Fassett's "Tussie Mussie".  I love how beautiful the fabrics make this simple triangle squares quilt.
The next is my finished retreat '16 quilt.  H had a time quilting this because of her back issues but it is done.  Don't know what I will do with it but....

The next is the 2016 Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt.  It looks better than I thought it would with the combination of colors we used.

The last one is a donation quilt made from fabrics given out at the "Day of Sharing" in Greenville in 2016. Again it is amazing how pretty such a simple design looks with happy fabrics.  Well face it, turquoise always works!!!

Underneath this quilt on my design wall (batting hanging over closet doors) are 32 of 64 lacy log cabin blocks from Kaffe's Quilts in Italy book.  There is one more quilt in there I want to make.
First I have to finish BH "Dawns Early Light" and "Straits of Macinack"

Mystery solved

Finally have this one done. Not my colors but it turned out better than I expected.
Hopefully the one this year is in blues.
Love this cooler weather.

Turtle Rest

Well the giant top is finished. It measures 96 by 112 but by George there is enough to cover pillows and the box springs at the  foot of the bed!!
I like the turquoise blocks better than my other which tends to darker blues.
Now to get a giant bsck. Of course it will be pieced. Luckily I made some extra blocks.
Then to quilters and when bound can replace one on bed.
Back to BH little bit pieces.

Finished

As I finished the last seam on this quilt top I had several thoughts, some of which I cannot share!
When I finished the last stitch and pressings I knew I had made a Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. Not only a pieced sashing but also a pieced border. I have not had time to count the pieces in it and I only made 12 of 16 blocks.

I think I will name it Easter because of finishing it on Easter monday and the colors: purple for lent, Red for Palm
Sunday, yellow for Easter sunrise service , green for all the grass in Easter baskets and white for the hangings during Easter season.

I say at this time each year I will not do it next year and I get caught up in it at thanksgiving. We will see.

Now on to straits of macinac!

So many moving parts.

Well it is half done. What a bear! I have vowed to finish putting it together before working on anything else.  I am only making 12 blocks. Square quilts make me crazy. I do like it but jimminy cricket what a chore.
I know, what else do I have to do its only holy week! St hildas guild worked hard last night digging up spent tulips. And the bulbs must have been planted in china. Then we planted 36 pink geraniums but it looks nice and will stay nice through the summer.
Oh well might as well put on another row!

Around the corner..

This is a corner block with sashing and borders of Bonnie Hunters mystery quilt.
It contains more than 200 pieces!!! And yes we must be crazy.
Happy quilting.
Sally

Old but still beautiful.

This is one of several dogwood trees at our church. I love the character in the twisted limbs.

Palm crosses

We had about 10 people making palm crosses for tomorrow at st. Stephens this morning. Then I decorated altar with fan palms and Judy helped put palm branches on front doors. It is a busy time.

Work

Only got 24 bales out. Had to stop. Now for shower, nap and golf tournament watching.

Dallas

This the back of the quilt for Dallas, my great nephew. I have had this panel or book print for years but thought it would make a great back for the dinasaur on the front.
Birthday quilting

Cute panel for a two year old.

Colorful leaves

This is from a kit by Frieda Anderson. I love the bright colors from her hand dyed fabrics. Not sure if it needs more quilting, maybe in the backgrounds. I will get a professional opinion on thursday!

Love that kaffe

Just finished putting this together. It was not easy. Getting all his fabrics was a chore. I found half way through, a site where you could get all his fabrics in a kit for the quilts in his book "Italy." What fun is that. This is tussie mussie.
I have gotten fabrics to do his "lacy log cabin" next.
Have a great weekend.

Too much yellow for me in BH mystery. This is my second with purple and green and it is just too harsh.
Maybe next year's will be blues?

Disappearing?

This is the disappearing hour glass from three dudes quilting. Love the kaffe fabrics but I need more greens and blues. Hate when that happens.
Mishap with my favorite quilt last week:-(.
Took it and one other to laundromat and it came out of the washer looking as if it had had a fight with the easter bunny and lost. It also had more wrinkles than I do. I am confused because the other wool batting quilt that I washed in the machine next to it came out fine. Quilt karma?
Sad quilting.
Sally

More kaffe.

I got tired of BH tiny pieces so for a change started "tussie mussie" from his quilts in Italy book. This also will have to wait for more blues and greens. I cut some red/pink half squares but they are disruptive to the calm tone I wanted to follow. Could have to do with the aforementioned quilt! I might make a version of this using reds etc and call it "hottsie tottsie"!!

Laughing leaves

This a fused art quilt I just finished. It was a kit designed by Frieda Anderson whose work I like because of the colors.  It was fun to do once I read the instructions several times. Getting the kit gets you her beautiful hand dyed fabrics which are rich in colors.
I had bought the pinking blade by olfa 3 or 4 years ago ..who knows why... but enjoyed the effect on the leaves.
My result differs from hers in some of the sashings because the directions leave some decisions to the quilter. Uh oh.
Anyway I like it which is all that matters.
I will make a sandwich and get it quilted sometime soon I hope.

Candy is dandy

I think this is my 8th bonnie hunter scrappy quilt. It took a long time because the 6.6 inch blocks ( 80 of them) for the center had 10 triangles and two string units each. I did not do the scalloped border however.
I have always liked how pretty this quilt looks. J and I went to greenville to the sewing creations shop for the first time. I did not know it was there. I got some Kaffe "jupiter" in purples and pinks for the back and it is just perfect.  Now to get it to the quilters.

Cotton candy

Wish I had some right now. Just finished putting together the center of this b h quilt. Still have to finish rest of piano key outer border. Will be glad to get this one off the ufo list.
Glad I had the fabric "freckles" by Northcott  because I think it is perfect.
Enuf quilting today. Going to try recipe for skillet cornbread Gene gave me today.
Yum.

Fandango

Here are some of the 30 blocks for the center of Judy Neimeyer's Japanese  fan quilt.

Nap time

Cecil is getting some nap time while I try to finish up the blocks on the Japanese fan quilt I started 3 or 4 years ago.  I am also waiting on the gas company to bring a tank and fix the gas logs... I hope.
It is a beautiful day so far a relief from the rainy dreary weather we have been having.

Bingo bash

This is the quilt top we made in 2016 at Sneads ferry retreat.  Everyone made blocks to play bingo then sewed sashings and put them together. I think it is stunning.

Bingo

Had a very productive two days sewing in Sneads ferry with M. Got to see friends at the church quilt group and talk about upcoming retreat. One of the things we do is play quilt bingo with certain colors of fabric for each of the columns and categories for the blocks in the columns. When we are tired of the game we all work on black and white precut sashings and put everything together for a stunning quilt top. True fun.
