the hanging

Here it is.  Finally, quilted, bound and hanging.  Even with measuring the middle brace is a pain.
I really do like it in this room.  The picture does not show the beautiful quilting by Heather Tighe in Hampstead.  It is called box maze and is done in variagated threads.
My quilt on my wall.  Special.
Now to finish the heart quilt with fabric from ME's and then 5 more blocks for BH Mystery.
Work work work.
Sunny, warm quilting.

Winter

I don't know why anyone is surprised by the weather unless they have not lived in NC very long.  As we are geographically and meteorlogically situated with the jet stream cutting across us every other day it is anyone's guess what we get day to day.  I know this is not science friday but there it is.  I love the cold but I love all the seasons when they are supposed to happen!!! The cold gives me the excuse to stay home and quilt.

It has been a sad time with loss of loved ones from different friends' families.  Sometimes it overwhelms me and I miss B all over again.

On a lighter note:
I saw this in ME's shop Saturday and of course loved it.  She informed me that it was in a book I had bought from her.  Now that is why you shop your local fabric shop.  Anyway I went home and made the center of the top but can't decide ( which is unusual for me) on the border.  One is too dark the other is too busy.  I am anxious to finish but will wait to go back to shop tomorrow after the Y to find a different red.  Here are the choices.

Don't know if you can tell but the top is a Henry Glass marble and the bottom is a paisley.  I thought it would do because it would pull the different shirtings from the hearts but it is too strong.
Anyway  hope to finish on wednesday.
Now to more blocks for the BH mystery.  Have finished the setting triangles and corner triangles only 9 more blocks to go.
Then the borders!!!! Think I will put a roast in the slow cooker first then I don't have to stop to fix supper.

making headway

I am making headway with the mystery quilt.  I have finished the middle "row" and can start on the other side.  I think I don't have enough of some of the parts of the blocks.  I will have to sit down tomorrow and count but boy is it going to be stunning.

My old teddy bears don't seem to mind being a part of the scene.  I can hardly wait to finish.  I think I will use it as my spring quilt for my bed.

Our guild was so lucky to have as a guest presenter Jane Hall on Saturday morning.  She spoke to us on how to make a "blue ribbon quilt."  We learned about many things we can do to make our quilts the best they can be.  She was also very complimentary about our raffle quilt which was a cooperative effort by many members of our guild.  We think it is lovely.

This was before the beautiful quilting and getting the binding done.

Time to sleep/

Thought I would switch fonts.  After doing some heavy machine applique this week I am not sure my eyes can read smaller print!!  Am taking two classes at Thistle Bee which are applique.  Not smart but I want to learn more about the process.  Also one of the classes will show different ways to frame, quilt, and embellish the blocks.  I finished the first one in the stitchers garden today.  After going back to get my pattern pieces with directions for the borders.  Not sure how I manage to get through the day.  Also locked my keys in the car.  While it was in my garage.  Just had to step inside and get extra key but not smart. I am trying to send a picture to the computer
and here it is.  I think all my tech stuff is haywire.  This picture is not as clear as usual but anyway.
I wanted to use my stash of Kaffe Fassett fabrics for this quilt.  What fun.  This will help me take a break from the Bonnie Hunter colors.

photo football

I am struggling with uploading pictures to my blog.  For some reason my options changed and I will have to do an "end around" play to get pictures from my computer.  This involves opening Picassa photo software to hold any pictures I want to use in blogging.  Not sure why and hate to use something so public but there it is.
Here is what I had done as of Saturday.  I now have two more setting triangles done.  I figure if I can do two blocks a day I should be finished by February!!!
I do love it and have enjoyed the chase.

Well "skinning the cat"  has its uses.  Ok Ok cat people I am talking about the phrase figuratively not literally.  Here is what I did at a class at Thistle Bee on Friday last.  Cute huh?
Maybe I can do one a month.  Now that I am underway on the Mystery Quilt and need to finish the Japanese Fan.

Oh well.

Surprise is worth the waiting

As this is my first mystery everything is new to me but the revealing of the blocks, corner triangles and setting triangles was really fun.  Then to put together the patches I had labored over for weeks and see the blocks etc come to life was just a joy.  I know but it is called "quilters flu".  You have a fever to work to get them done, you don't eat, sleep, or drink fluids ( you don't have time to go) and all you want to do is sit.....at the machine.  Here is what I have so far.

Can the woman put together a pattern or what.
